Who are we
Out of Peru is run by a brother and sister team, Simon and Rachael Ogilvie-Harris. They were both born in Canada and educated in the UK, where Out Of Peru is currently based. As children, they travelled extensively with their family exposing them to many different cultures in all parts of the world, from the Australian outback to the bright lights of New York.
After Simon completed his secondary education at Harrow School, he went on to study Geography at Newcastle University. He was also awarded a Masters from the prestigious Cass Business School in London, which led onto a career in the City of London where he worked at Goldman Sachs. Simon decided he wanted to fulfill his lifelong dream of running a business and founded Out Of Peru with Rachael.
Rachael’s interests lay in the study of the Earth and its processes, which encouraged her to study Geology at the University of Bristol after attending Wycombe Abbey School. This sparked her passion for the formation of precious metals and gems at source. Rachael was awarded the Undergraduate Student Award from the Minerological Society of Great Britain and Ireland, presented to the best students in the mineral sciences. She has worked along side De Beers geologists whilst conducting research and is currently completing a PhD related to precious stones.
How we started
The idea of Out Of Peru originated when Simon and Rachael’s brother and his friends returned from a trip to Peru with some of the world’s most dazzling handcrafted sterling silver jewellery. Rachael’s love for gems and precious metals and Simon’s determination to realize his dream of starting a business was a powerful force. Simon and Rachael jumped on a plane to Peru and organized to meet with some of Peru’s top jewellery designers.
After meeting with the designers, they could hardly contain their excitement at the quality of the sterling silver and the individuality of each design. They observed how the designers worked painstakingly over each individual facet of each item of jewellery. This connected with their vision of luxury and individuality for their business.
Our Logo
Rachael designed the logo incorporating the three crescent moons, inspired by the ancient Incan legend about the Moon Goddess. The Incas regarded the Moon Goddess as the third power and mood goddess. Each individual moon represents what the Moon Goddess stands for: marriage, protection of women and femininity.
